Milan was today the scene of a protest against the organization of the Milan–Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games. Around 5,000 people participated in the national march called by opposition movements, with groups coming from Milan, Lombardy and other regions of northern Italy.

The demonstration began at 3:00 p.m., the day after the opening ceremony of the Games, and took place along a route that, according to the authorities, did not directly affect the Olympic facilities. Only the passage on Via Brembo was considered sensitive, as it is located near the Olympic Village, which was protected by increased security measures.

The city was placed under strong police control, with around 300 officers deployed and temporary traffic restrictions.

According to police, tensions were concentrated in the Corvetto area, where a group of protesters separated from the main march and attempted to approach the eastern ring road.

During these episodes, some protesters threw fireworks and pyrotechnic devices at the police. The police responded with water cannons and tear gas to disperse the crowd.

The march ended in the Viale Brenta area, where around 500 protesters remained in the evening hours. After the demonstration ended, the situation gradually calmed down and the security forces began to normalize traffic in the affected areas.

Local authorities stressed that the security measures were aimed at guaranteeing public order and protecting Olympic infrastructure, while protest organizers reaffirmed their opposition to the Games, describing them as socially and economically unsustainable.
