Three reasons why Trump is harshly criticizing NATO
American President, Donald Trump

US President Donald Trump has harshly attacked NATO and allies regarding the war in Iran and the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing that without the US, the alliance has no real power.

"Without the US, NATO is a paper tiger! They did not want to participate in the battle to stop Iran from getting nuclear weapons. Now that this battle has been won militarily, with very little risk to them, they complain about the high oil prices they are forced to pay, but do not want to help open the Strait of Hormuz. This is a simple military maneuver. Cowards, and we will remember this," Trump wrote on the social network Truth Social.

American analyst David Blevins believes that there are several strategic and political reasons behind the American leader's message.

"Donald Trump is probably now trying to find a way out and transfer the Strait of Hormuz problem to NATO allies," he told Sky News.

"If we analyze it briefly, from a strategic point of view... I think it's about three things. First, he's trying to put pressure on the allies to protect shipping through the strait while he looks for a way out of this war.

"Secondly, he further emphasizes his long-standing thesis that America bears the greatest burden within NATO," the American asserted and continued. And thirdly, there is also a domestic aspect, he wants voters in the US to hear the message that America works hard," the analyst said.

Trump's statements come at a time when allies are divided over the military role in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's main routes for transporting oil, while the war with Iran has entered its third week.

The war against Iran is a "military victory," says Donald Trump, and there is "very little risk" to the alliance.

However, after severely criticizing their support, he adds that the US "will keep it in mind."

"Without the US, NATO is just a 'paper tiger'! They didn't want to get involved in the war to stop a nuclear-capable Iran. Now that war has been won militarily and there is very little risk to them, yet they still complain about the high oil prices they are forced to pay. They refuse to help open the Strait of Hormuz, a simple military maneuver that is the main reason for high oil prices. That would be very easy to do and with very little risk. Coward and we will remember!", he wrote.

Analysts have long warned that Iran would effectively block the Strait of Hormuz in the event of an attack.

This is exactly what happened, and yet there appears to have been no prior plan to counter this move and NATO allies were not consulted prior to the US-Israeli attack on Iran.
