For pro-Russians, the only possible peace is one in which Ukraine accepts all of the Tsar's terms because, they argue, Putin has already won the war...
There is something wrong with the reasoning of many pro-Putinists who have recently intensified their propaganda efforts, perhaps precisely to cover up the truth.
They say: Europe is a gang of criminals, even incompetent ones, who do not want peace by insisting on imposing conditions to protect Ukrainian sovereignty in order to achieve, if not an end, at least a freeze in the war.
But these fake pro-Russian pacifists are careful not to invite Putin to show even a shred of reason.
No, for them, the only possible peace is one in which Ukraine accepts all of the Tsar’s terms because, as they argue, Putin has already won that war. Now, if that were true, the Russian flag would be flying high on Kiev’s highest flagpole today and there would be no need for negotiations, nor would Putin bother to join Trump in Alaska, and perhaps soon with Zelensky in Geneva, or, as he claims, kneeling in Moscow.
After three-plus years of war and hundreds of thousands of Russians killed on the front lines, Putin has made it less than 1/5 of the way there, barely controlling 19 percent of the territory he had planned to completely annex in an instant.
Of course, given the disproportionate forces between the two contenders, it is likely that the objective would be achieved if this were to continue indefinitely, but Putin has apparently also realized that he must scale back his dreams of glory.
What is hard to understand is why he is seeking a landslide victory and why no one is challenging him for the same reason Zelensky is being challenged: "my dear friend, if you, like Ukraine, really want peace, you have to leave something on the table, because that's how things work."
His admirers, even in Italy, are annoyed that the free world demands a peace that is certainly not unnecessary, but at least dignified for Ukraine, given that its army has fought, is fighting, and currently has no intention of surrendering.
In short, if the war does not end, it will certainly not happen because Europe does not want peace, but rather because Putin insists on having on a silver platter what is not only not his, but which he has not yet even deserved on the ground. /Adapted from Il Giornale/
