Jim Acosta, one of the most important and well-known editors and political analysts in the US, announced today through his show that after 18 years of work, his collaboration with CNN is coming to an end.
Acosta, in an emotionally charged message at the end of his broadcast from Washington, stressed that he is indebted to CNN and clearly emphasized that "it is never a good thing to worship tyrants," once again leaving a clear advantage to President Donald Trump with whom he had some of the most intense confrontations in press conferences during his first term.
In his latest message from CNN's frequency, Acosta also called on "people who still believe in Democracy not to succumb to lies and fear."
Acosta is the first "heavyweight" name in the media to stand up to Trump in years.
CNN, which has yet to issue an official announcement regarding Acosta's departure, appears to have suggested that the political editor stay with the group but change the time zone of his show, which for years has aired at 10:00 every morning from Washington.
American media outlets point out that CNN management, which is expected to continue with other less-noticeable but equally significant cuts after Trump's election, had suggested that Acosta "move" to the midnight zone.
Acosta, the son of Cuban immigrants, was the journalist who asked Castro extremely "uncomfortable" questions inside Cuba during Obama's first visit since 1928 - in 2016.
