A senior official of the US presidency said on Sunday that Washington does not rule out the option of striking Iran, stating again, during an interview given to a television network.
He said that US attacks are inevitable in retaliation against factions close to Iran.
"There will be further action in response to the tragic deaths of three brave members of the United States armed forces," White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan said during an interview on "This Week" on " ABC News”.
"We have to prepare for any event. I would just say, as far as Tehran is concerned, if it chooses to immediately retaliate against the US, there will be a strong reaction from us ," he added, according to a New York Daily News report.
His remarks came a day after the third joint US-British military operation against Houthi rebels in Yemen and two days after bombings in Syria and Iraq against elite members of the Iranian military and armed groups near Tehran.
"The president is determined to respond with force to attacks on our people, although he does not seek a wider war in the Middle East, where concerns are intensifying as a result of the Israel-Hamas war," he said.
Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, considered to be in the inner circle of presidential candidate Donald Trump, is the loudest voice in the chorus calling for military action against Tehran.
"If the goal is to deter Iran, we are failing," he told Fox News yesterday. "If the goal is to protect American troops, it is not being achieved ," he insisted.
"President Biden does not need congressional approval to order strikes against Iran," he said, adding that he has the authority to protect troops on the ground.
