The Slovenian government has banned Milorad Dodik from entering the country. The reason has not been disclosed, but it has been said to be a "secret".
This was announced after the executive meeting by the Deputy Prime Minister of Slovenia, Matej Arqon.
Dodik, in early August, was sentenced by a final decision to one year in prison and a six-year ban on exercising public functions in Bosnia and Herzegovina, due to failure to comply with the decisions of the High Representative of the international community in Bosnia, Christian Schmidt.
After the final verdict was announced, the Bosnian Central Election Commission stripped him of his mandate as president of the Republika Srpska entity.
Since April, Dodik has been banned from entering Austria and Germany due to secessionist actions and undermining the Dayton Peace Agreement.
Poland and Estonia have also initiated procedures to ban entry into the country.
In mid-July, members of the European Parliament also called for sanctions against Dodik through the European Commission's report on Bosnia's progress, due to "divisive rhetoric and secessionist politics."
The European Union has so far, due to the opposition of Hungarian leader Viktor Orban, failed to reach an agreement on sanctions against Dodik.
Dodik, along with several other officials from Republika Srpska, has been on the US “blacklist” since last year for undermining the Dayton Agreement and violating the integrity of Bosnia. The sanctions were imposed after the Republika Srpska Parliament passed laws that overturned the decisions of the Bosnian Constitutional Court and the High Representative.
Also, since April 2022, Dodik has been on the United Kingdom's sanctions list.
Dodik, members of his family and several companies associated with them have long been on the sanctions list of the United States Office of Foreign Assets Control. These sanctions prohibit financial transactions with Dodik and other sanctioned individuals./ REL
