The United States said it had struck and sunk an Iranian Jamaran-class warship during recent military operations against Islamic Republic targets.
According to a statement from the US military, it is an Iranian navy corvette that was hit near a pier in Chah Bahar, in the Gulf of Oman. "The ship is currently sinking at the bottom of the Gulf of Oman," the statement said.
US authorities added that operations against Iranian targets are continuing and reiterated the US president's call for the Iranian armed forces, the Revolutionary Guard and security forces to "lay down their weapons" and abandon their positions.
Tehran has not yet officially confirmed the loss of the ship, and Iranian state media has not provided details on the damage to the naval fleet. The Jamaran-class ships are considered an important part of Iran's naval capabilities and are designed for operations in the Gulf waters and beyond.
The incident marks a direct escalation in the maritime dimension of the conflict between the US and Iran. The Gulf of Oman constitutes a strategic corridor near the Strait of Hormuz, through which a significant part of the global oil supply passes. Any military development in this area raises concerns about maritime security and the stability of international energy markets.
