Putin happy after meeting, Trump irritated...
The Alaskan Summit is shrouded in mystery.
The presidents of the US and Russia have found common ground to end the war in Ukraine, although there are many questions about what they have achieved.
After the meeting, the two leaders held a joint press conference, where they acknowledged that they had reached an agreement, but without providing details.
Vladimir Putin was the one who opened the press conference and said that the negotiations were "held in a constructive atmosphere of mutual respect."
" We had very detailed negotiations that were quite useful ," he said.
He further admitted that the parties reached an agreement, but without giving journalists details about what it was about.
He said Russia is "sincerely interested" in ending the conflict, but for it to be "sustainable," it must eliminate the "root causes of the conflict" and address Russia's "legitimate conflict."
" I agree with President Trump, as he said today, that of course, Ukraine's security must also be guaranteed. Of course, we are prepared to work on that ," he continued.
" I would like to hope that the agreement we have reached together will help us bring this goal closer and will pave the way for peace in Ukraine ," Putin said.
The Russian president also sharply criticized European leaders, saying he hopes they do not "destroy the nascent progress."
But less enthusiastic was Donald Trump. The US president said they had agreed on most issues. According to him, only a few small parts remained for negotiation. He did not give details of the pact, but said he would call Zelensky and EU leaders to inform them.
“ There were many, many points that we agreed on. I would say some big ones, but we are not there yet, we have made some progress. I will start making some calls and I will tell them what happened. We had an extremely productive meeting and many points were agreed, there are very few left. Some are not so important, one is probably the most important, but we have a very good chance of getting there, ” he said, where the fact that he did not mention the ceasefire stood out.
The fact that the Russian leader was very happy, while Trump was not so happy, proves that Ukraine will suffer in the end.
