Vučić against the Peace Board: It is creating division in the EU, a body
Aleksandar Vucic

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said today that the Peace Council, which was established today in Davos, has further divided Europe by signing the Charter. Vučić also said that he is not sure what this council will mean for the whole world.

In a statement to the media in Davos, Vučić said that many European Union countries are either not participating in this initiative, or have not yet officially expressed their support.

"Countries either don't participate or don't vote for it. Some say it's a parallel body of the UN. China has only said it received an invitation, France, Germany, Italy... Nobody is participating. We'll see who will send troops there, who will participate ," the president told reporters.

Asked about the global role of the Peace Board, Vučić said that it is not yet clear what function this structure will have.

"Some call it a parallel organization to the United Nations, but I'm not sure that's possible. China has only announced that it has received an invitation, while France, Germany and Italy are not participating," the Serbian president stressed.

60 countries have been invited to join the project. Several key US allies have so far refused to join the Peace Council, including France, Britain, Norway, Slovenia and Sweden.

French officials have stressed that while they support a peace plan for Gaza, they are concerned that the Peace Council could try to replace the United Nations as the main venue for resolving the conflict.

Canada, Russia, Ukraine, China, Italy and representatives of the European Union have also not yet responded to Trump's invitations to join the council.

The ceremony in Davos was attended by several world statesmen, including the prime ministers of Hungary, Bulgaria, Armenia, Pakistan and Qatar, the presidents of Argentina and Indonesia, as well as the foreign ministers of Turkey and Saudi Arabia.
