Four possible rounds of talks between US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping are expected to take place during 2026, according to a recent statement by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, given to Politico.
Bessent described the interaction between the two leaders as "fruitful and constructive," while emphasizing that the intensification of dialogue is a positive signal for global stability and international economic relations.
According to the senior US official, the first meeting is expected to take place in April 2026, during a planned visit by Trump to Beijing, the first of this level since the end of his first term. The second meeting could be a return visit by Xi Jinping to the United States, while two others are planned within the framework of international forums: the G20 Summit in Miami (summer 2026), which Trump will host; the APEC Forum, scheduled to be held in China, which Trump has expressed a desire to attend.
These developments mark a more moderate and diplomatic tone in US-China relations, especially after a period of economic tensions, tariffs and clashes on strategic issues such as Taiwan, technology and global trade.
