Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has organized a counter-rally this evening, in response to the protests that have gripped the country.
The rally being held in the center of Belgrade is titled: "We will not give up on Serbia."
A 200-meter-long Serbian flag has been placed in Belgrade for this rally, which is expected to be held for three consecutive days.
In addition to Vučić, the rally is also being attended by the outgoing Prime Minister, Miloš Vučević, and the outgoing Minister of Internal Affairs, Ivica Dačić, and other political figures.
The center of Belgrade was closed to traffic earlier on April 11 due to the rally, which was called by Vučić.
Police have taken to the streets to provide security during the rally, and some citizens are writing letters to Vučić and joining the "Movement for the People and the State," said Radio Free Europe journalists reporting from the field.
REL spoke with citizens who are signing the membership application at a checkpoint in Belgrade, asking them why they are joining Vučić's movement.
"Because I love Serbia," said Milan Loncar, adding that he is not a member of the ruling party, the Serbian Progressive Party, but is a supporter of Vučić.
Government representatives in Serbia have repeatedly described the protests that students have been organizing for several months as a "colorful revolution."
Meanwhile, buses carrying supporters of Aleksandar Vučić were pelted with eggs by citizens today. A video posted on social media shows citizens trying to block the bus transporting progressives from Obrenovci to Belgrade for Vučić's rally, and then throwing eggs at it.
During the day, a group of students from Bazar, but also from other Serbian cities, blocked buses heading to Vučić's rally. The police removed them from the road, but according to available information, they were not arrested.
