Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić met with Chinese Premier Li Qiang in Beijing today, on the second day of his official visit to China.

According to Vučić, the meeting discussed "the further strengthening of bilateral relations, new investments, infrastructure projects, as well as key geopolitical and regional issues."

After the meeting at the Great Palace of the People, Vučić wrote on Instagram that friendship and partnership with China are of “extraordinary importance” for Serbia. He thanked China for its contribution to the country’s economic development through investments, infrastructure and new technologies.

Vučić said that cooperation with China has helped revive factories, mines, roads and railways, bringing, according to him, more security to citizens. He described the visit as historic and said that the talks are of great importance for Serbia, its citizens and national interests.

The Serbian president also expressed gratitude to Chinese President Xi Jinping, praising his personal commitment and support for Serbia. Vučić said that relations between the two countries have reached the highest historical level.

He stressed that Serbia supports the "one China" policy and sees the "One Belt, One Road" initiative as a contribution to connectivity between states, more balanced development, and maintaining global stability.

The meeting was also attended by several Serbian ministers, including Finance Minister Siniša Mali, Defense Minister Bratislav Gašić, Trade Minister Jagoda Lazarević, and Economy Minister Adrijana Mesarović, Radio Television of Serbia, RTS, reported.

Afterwards, Vučić laid a wreath at the Monument to the People's Heroes in Tiananmen Square in Beijing.

The Serbian president also met with Wang Huning, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. Vučić said that at the meeting they exchanged views on Serbia-China cooperation and on initiatives that, according to him, are important for Serbia's economic development.

Later in the day, Vucic is expected to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

During the visit to China, two declarations are expected to be signed with the Chinese president, as well as at least 33 other agreements. According to reports, around one billion euros in investments are expected.
