Zelensky wants long-range weapons, Macron gives him anti-aircraft missiles and

Volodymyr Zelensky today called for Ukraine to be reinforced with long-range weapons from Kiev's allies participating in the so-called "Coalition of the Willing", in order to put pressure on Russia to begin negotiations to end the war.

Ukraine is using its own means to strike energy and military infrastructure deep inside Russian territory and has requested long-range Tomahawk missiles from the United States to increase pressure on Moscow, but has yet to receive them.

"As soon as Putin felt the pressure and the possibility of the appearance of Tomahawk missiles in Ukraine, he immediately declared his readiness to resume talks," Zelensky said in London.

What does Macron give to Kiev?

President Emmanuel Macron announced France's intention to send Aster anti-aircraft missiles to Ukraine "within the next few days," as well as Mirage fighter jets, during a video conference of Kiev's allies.

"We will deliver in the coming days additional Aster missiles, new Mirages and new training programs," Macron said, without giving further clarification.

So far, France has given Ukraine three of the six Mirage 2000s it promised, mainly for training Ukrainian pilots. One of them crashed in July.

The Aster 15 and 30 missiles are being produced in cooperation with Italy and operate with the SAMP/T MAMBA air defense system, the Italian-French equivalent of the American Patriot system. The two European countries have provided an unspecified number of missiles to the Ukrainians, who are seeking more for their defense.

"It is very important to continue efforts to support Ukraine and to put pressure on Russia," Macron stressed to the leaders of the Alliance of the Willing.

This summit is co-chaired by Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

Starmer: We need to do more

Furthermore, increased deliveries of long-range weapons to Ukraine were called for today by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, following his meeting with Zelensky, ahead of the London meeting of the so-called "Coalition of the Willing".

"I believe we can do more for the media, especially the media with a broad reach," Keir Starmer said at the start of their meeting.

"And of course, there is the essential work of the coalition of the willing for the necessary security guarantees," he added.

The Zelensky-Starmer meeting took place after King Charles III granted a new audience to the Ukrainian president, their third meeting in the United Kingdom since the beginning of the year.

The head of the Labour government leads, together with French President Emmanuel Macron, the "coalition of the willing", which includes 26 mainly European countries that support Kiev.
