Doubt: Will Edi Rama be invited to the NATO Summit in Washington?

Diplomatic sources told 'Pamphlet' that President Bajram Begaj has been invited to the summit. A very strong signal, which we have not noticed so far in the previous summits...

A very important event that happened last week is being left in the dark.

A senior official of the Department of State, namely, the Coordinator for Global Anti-Corruption, Richard Nephew, visited Albania, met the head of SPAK, Altin Dumani, representatives from the media and civil society. Nephew, did not meet with Edi Rama or any member of his government.

Precisely, the lack of diplomatic contact with a government official, an important DASH authority, seems more like a political message than a protocol routine.

In the interview given in the Albanian section of the Voice of America, the DASH official formulated strong positions towards the government, which were not just remarks or accusations.

He spoke in the first place against the attempt of the majority and Sali Berisha in the Assembly to change or revise the reform in Justice.

"We want to ensure that whatever additional reforms are made, they continue to preserve the independence of the judiciary and ensure that prosecutors take cases forward, that they can do their work as independently and as evidence-based as possible. I think as we look at the reforms and as we look at the kind of work that's being done to improve the systems here, a lot will be decided by how comprehensive they are, how much all the different actors bring, and that we don't lose the good progress we've made so far. , to make the justice sector as independent and efficient as possible", said the DASH Coordinator on corruption.

Meanwhile, the litmus test if the situation is so dramatic between Rama and the USA remains the high-level NATO summit in Washington from July 9-11. Which is very important from the political point of view, as it will ratify the position on the war in Ukraine, but also from the protocol point of view, since the 75th anniversary of the Atlantic Alliance will be celebrated.

Until now, Edi Rama has participated in all leaders' summits and the President of the Republic has not gone, which is possible from the protocol point of view.

Diplomatic sources told 'Pamphlet' that President Bajram Begaj has been invited to the summit. A very strong signal, which we have not noticed so far in the previous summits.

Meanwhile, it is still a mystery if an invitation went to Prime Minister Edi Rama, and the government is keeping this development quite secret.

Other times, whenever an opportunity has been offered to visit the US, Rama has announced it long in advance.

The very invitation to the President opens many dilemmas, seeing the Prime Minister's mania for protagonism. During his 12-year government, Rama has not allowed any of the Presidents of the Republic, where he accompanied 3 of them, to go to the NATO leaders' summits.

During the time of Sali Berisha - prime minister, the USA sent two parallel invitations, and both President Bamir Topi and Prime Minister Berisha went to high-level summits. But Topi was the head of the Albanian delegation. The same protocol applied to other countries in the region, such as Croatia, which has a powerful president elected directly by the people.

All these analogies are an opportunity to analyze new developments, which are being kept under wraps by the government.

A few days ago, a senior NATO military officer, Major General Daniel Lasica, Director of Policy, Strategy, Planning and Capacities of the US European Command, visited Tirana, but met only with President Bajram Begaj./Pamphlet
