Regarding the physical safety of food, almost 80% of respondents were of the opinion that food safety control by state institutions is not at the appropriate level.
As part of the Security Barometer, which is published periodically by the Center for the Study of Democracy and Governance, I conducted a rigorous statistical survey in the field, where respondents were also asked about food security - both physical and financial.
In question 66 of the questionnaire, respondents were asked whether in the last 12 months, family members had ever reduced the amount of food or skipped a meal because they did not have enough money for food. Only 63.5% answered “No”, while 13.8% answered “Yes, every month”.
Only 55.5% of respondents were not worried about running out of money to buy food until their next paycheck. Meanwhile, a full 18.7% were worried every month.
Only 27.7% of families had the opportunity to buy the types of food they wanted to consume. Meanwhile, a full 11.2% never had this opportunity. Also, a full 23.9% of respondents were concerned about meeting their food needs in the future.
In summary, it can be said that about 1/5 of the country's residents faced food insecurity from a financial perspective.
Regarding the physical safety of food, almost 80% of respondents were of the opinion that food safety control by state institutions is not at the appropriate level. Meanwhile, only 23% of respondents were of the opinion that food products sold in Albania are safe and harmless to health.
In summary, it can be said that about 4/5 of the country's residents were food insecure from a physical perspective.
STATISTICAL NOTE: The sample of 1124 respondents from Vermoshi to Konispol was statistically weighted to best represent the country's adult population from a geographical, demographic and political perspective.
