The 'disagreement' as a testament to Albania's western

Konica and Fishta left us in writing the depressing messages that the enemies of Albania are the Albanians themselves.

Solid from the point of view of structuring, "Dispute" is one of those indefinable books not simply in terms of genre, but also of the very topic or subject it deals with.

You can't tell that it's just an essay, as you run across its pages with genuine historical facts written in the style of a historian, you run into synopses of novels that fall like ores in the depths of mixed matter; with poetic and philosophical discourses in prose about the national anthem, or about the animated God of the race; by stretching the arc of imagination to connect the separated shores of events, or the vacuums created by the accidents and upheavals of history.

However, you cannot say with complete certainty that "Dispute" deals with such a topic, since the whole book is a combination and juxtaposition of distant topics and reflections, which sometimes seem as if they were inserted with some arbitrariness into the covers of the same book. For example, the reflections on the fate of Skanderbeg from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance on the one hand and the description of terrorist murders within the type and behind the back in the ranks of partisan formations during the Second World War, on the other.

The umbrella of interweaving, the one that tends to confederate the themes and styles of the book is "Discord". The dispute is the supreme and all-encompassing subject of the subject. But let no one think that this is a concrete, tangible, documentable dispute. The dispute is ephemeral, the hukama of centuries of Albania and Albanians. At the same time, it is a state of our living as a people, where the common framework of language, things we like and customs that have contoured or shaped our constitution, respond to religious diversity and internal contradictions. Which, as they merge into the characteristics of our identity, have been and remain to this day the part of us revealed against the targets and blows from those who have loved us confused, with a broken spiritual frame.

"Dispute" has this topic at its core. The topic of the spiritual framework of Albanians. Aware of the slippery terrain and the delicate nature of his exploration, as well as wanting to protect himself from misunderstandings, excesses or even the consequences of blasphemy, Kadare presented his text as a "literary test". The literary test is the big tent for all questions, even for fiction. And the best way to deal with such a subject is to put it simply, as popular discourse puts it. Why are we like this? Why are we late? Why don't we become what we should become?

Konica and Fishta left us in writing the depressing messages that the enemies of Albania are the Albanians themselves. Furthermore, there was and always is an obstacle or a shyness to investigate the deep reasons of this phenomenon, whether it is a question of a superstition that should not be touched because it can explode worse or going with the opinion that Albania was built this way, this is how it was done under the long Ottoman occupation, this is how it exists, as a unity of opposites, as a trichotomy of a people with two or three souls, that gravitate in different directions and thus produce the original history of their country. History based on misunderstanding.

If this were the case, the search for the causes that determine Albania's backwardness and delays would not make sense. We would all have to accept a state of damnation without salvation. But it is not so. On this cardinal subject it is written sparingly, because it is difficult, heavy, delicate as well. In addition to talent and preparation, I think that the status of the writer is necessarily required, in the sense that this is the subject of a proven career, or a high doctorate, which the author has approached year after year and decade after decade in his ascent towards the heights of literature and art.

In other words, this "Dispute" is a theme of the peaks, a theme for Kadare, without a doubt, not only because Kadare is an extraordinary writer, but also because of the fact that in one form or another, his creativity has been for decades an exploration into the issues of national identity and the spiritual constitution of Albanians.

It was therefore expected that the author of the novels that lit up the memory and consciousness of his readers in the period of communism, would face the main theme of the spiritual framework in the calm of glory and fame. The book "Disagreement - on Albania's relations with itself" is the proof. Indeed, an exploration like this, based on extensive but always insufficient knowledge, cannot but be literary. The literary test is the right approach to bring a broader picture of Albania's relationship with itself.

Matet Kadareja, it is delayed to approach the essence of the "enigma" - what is this ghost, what is the disagreement? This approach will go through several stages that are the chapters of the book themselves, twelve in total, separate worlds each, which can be divided into two groups. The upper worlds, those dedicated to the Anthem, Skanderbeg, God... and the lower worlds, those that reflect a confrontation between living, contemporary people. Between the nationalists on one side and the deniers on the other, with whom the writer in his descents from the upper flights also spends some polemics. The author himself is not one-dimensional in these worlds. As in a mythical paradox or as a projection of what will happen to him in the future, he enlarges by ascending, that is, by moving away, and somewhat decreases by approaching.

Divisions, retreats and tears do not come from the spiritual constitution of the majority of the people, but are stimulated by Albania's enemies and rivals and are interpreted and served as such by "renegades" as well as by the country's corrupt and irresponsible political elites. A conclusion like this seems a little narrower than the breadth with which Kadareja has presented the problem of national impasse. The book creates the impression that the author wants to say or is preparing to say more.

But even as much as the book says, it communicates to contemporaries and generations with a great force of expression that the will to be together and understand each other, as if it were a divine commandment, as far as belonging to Europe is concerned, does not conflict with freedoms, on the contrary, reinforces them. The book itself calls for a new awareness in this area. To everyone and especially to those who take it upon themselves to lead the country. It also echoes a current call in the light of the Olympic calendar of the spiritual homeland: to de-Germanise Albanian society where it is needed.
