Where is the misery of the Albanian opposition visible? Where its leaders (their leaders were cut off!) try to appear more radical than Donald Trump. Where, by imitating him, they even try to surpass him with stupidity. Today, wasted political figures like Sali Berisha and Fatmir Mediu stylize an American right-wing extremist (unfortunately killed!) as a hero of freedom of speech. But he was not like that.
This man spread the lie that the 2020 presidential election was rigged. It wasn't! He supported the attack on the Capitol, the temple of American democracy, and boasted that he had sent "80 busloads of patriots to Washington to fight for the president." Meanwhile, the Republican vice president himself had distanced himself from this orgy of violence.
The extremist activist's stances were openly anti-Semitic, as he spread conspiracy theories that "Jewish donors" fund "open border policies, neoliberal and quasi-Marxist policies."
With this opposition glorifying far-flung extremists instead of offering alternatives to its citizens, Albania can hardly hope for positive changes or a rotation of power after four years. Albanians have other problems.
Their problems are existential: entire villages are emptying, the birth rate is falling, the country is emptying like many other Balkan countries. Albania does not need "cultural battles", nor battles for freedom of speech because it is so limitless that politicians accuse each other of the greatest possible crimes without any consequences.
