The Republic of Facebook: the government posts, the people comment

If elsewhere people take to the streets and scream until their voices are gone, Albanians have found the magic formula: they protest against the government on Facebook, on Facebook.

The Sun sat in front of the screen as if before an altar. She was not looking for work, nor for cooking recipes. She was studying digital leadership. With the humility that characterizes her towards the Sun that illuminates us with its light from her mobile phone, she opened the registers of modern history: the Facebook pages.

The sun looked at the region and the world and was horrified by the "laziness" of global leaders. Is there no state there?

Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Prime Minister of Greece. Only four thousand followers on Facebook. Scandal! No posts today. It seems that Greeks have forgotten that the state is maintained by "story".

Milojko Spajic, Prime Minister of Montenegro. Thirty-three thousand followers. Calm. Zero posts. Montenegrins are known for being lazy. You don't expect anything from them.

Emmanuel Macron and Friedrich Merz, the axis of the EU. Total silence. Is the pandemic back?! Germany and France have been left orphans without a "live" news to show how asphalt is being laid, or how a bridge's ribbon is being cut. Chancellor Merz, who has 133 thousand followers on Facebook, has not posted for ten days. Scandal! 80 million inhabitants and the chancellor has fewer followers than a deputy from Fier?!

But there is worse.

US President Donald Trump. Even the world's number one posted yesterday, "only" one sentence. A call to God and the army. So little? How can the US be a superpower with one post in two days?

Even Italy's Georgia Meloni no posts today?! Italy is also part of the G7.

Dessert for last. Albania. The country where I am a minister. The country where the sun shines even at night, and never sets at all!

He has 1.6 million followers on Facebook! He doesn't govern a people, he governs a server. While the world rests on Saturday, here we work. Five posts today. More than the rest of the globe combined.

In Albania, if the post on Facebook is not posted, the asphalt does not stick to the road, doctors cannot cure patients, ducks do not bathe in the lake, and the sun neither rises nor sets.

But if the government rules on Facebook and Instagram, the people are not left behind.

The people are even more "modern" than the government.

If elsewhere people take to the streets and scream until their voices are gone, Albanians have found the magic formula: they protest against the government on Facebook, on Facebook.

Social media is filled with comments like: "You're welcome."

The winner is declared when the status receives over 100 "shares".

We have invented mobile democracy here. A unique system where the government presses the "post" button and the people press the "refresh" button. No protesters in the square. No one to be seen. Just fingers sliding on the cold glass.

Conclusion: My dearly beloved Albania remains the only place where, if Facebook or WhatsApp goes down, the government goes down, but it also ends up taking down the opposition.

Facebook government, by Facebook, for the people of Facebook.

At the end of the day, everyone is happy: the government gets "likes", the people vent in the comments, nothing changes, but everything shines on Instagram!

Amen.
