The identity of the 3 Albanian citizens caught in the Port of Livorno in Italy, in an attempt to extract 148 kg of cocaine from a container with bananas arrived from the Port of Guacaquil in Ecuador, has been revealed.
As the Italian media reveal, the arrested Albanians are the Albanian brothers Ylber and Napolon Arshi, 37 and 35 years old, and Goliano Zhupa, 30 years old.
Three Albanians had left Albania for Livorno to receive a quantity of cocaine of nearly 150 kilograms for the account of organized crime.
They were supposed to deliver to someone (in their testimony they did not specify who was the person who would receive the quantity of drugs) cocaine worth tens of millions of euros, which was divided into 139 packages weighing approximately 1.1 kg each.
The name of Napolon Arshi is not unknown to the Albanian police. In 2016, the 37-year-old from Lepenica in Vlora was declared wanted by the police of the coastal city after he had fired a gun in the air threatening a person.
Who are the arrested?
None of them are residents of Italy and had no identity documents, so it was not easy for the investigators to identify them.
The cocaine was in a container of bananas coming from Ecuador and destined for a company based in Switzerland.
The three arrested have chosen to appear before the investigators and have not provided any information regarding their involvement in this affair. They are in custody, in Sughere prison.
Traveling
The drug shipment discovered by police had left the Ecuadorian port of Guayaquil. The ship, Cma CGM Exemplarity, then transited the Panama Canal and headed for Europe. When he arrived in Livorno, investigators were keeping him under surveillance. Within a few hours, the three Albanian "couriers" went to get the amount of drugs, but ended up in handcuffs before they could complete their task.
