A large-scale anti-drug operation by SPAK has hit a criminal organization suspected of international drug trafficking and money laundering, led by the highly wanted Jetmir Pepa (Marashi).
Journalist Klodjana Lala revealed details in an interview with "News 24". She said that 4 people have been arrested and 6 others are being sought, while Pepa herself has been abroad for several months. According to her, the operation has led to one of the largest seizures of assets suspected of being the proceeds of criminal activity.
"There are 231 assets seized in total. Not only Pepa's, but also those of companies linked to him, spread across several cities in the country," said Lala.
She emphasized that these assets include a wide range of assets, from businesses to cryptocurrencies.
"There are businesses, hotels, beauty centers, land, apartments, commercial units, bank accounts, luxury vehicles and even cryptocurrencies," the journalist stated.
According to Lala, the investigations were also based on communications decoded by the SKY ECC platform, which helped document the criminal activity.
"After analyzing communications from SKY ECC, episodes of drug and cocaine trafficking from 2021-2024 abroad have been discovered," she said.
The journalist added that, although Pepa's name was not very well known in Albania, his activity is suspected to have been extensive.
"He was not very well known in Albania, except for a case of a clash between two showbiz girls, where his name was also mentioned," Lala said, adding that "most of the money was brought to Albania and invested in property and businesses." She emphasized that the money gained from trafficking was recycled in various forms.
"The money was mainly invested in construction, businesses, but also converted into cryptocurrencies," she stated.
Regarding the investigations, Lala indicated that they are still ongoing and there may be other developments.
"So far there is no information about police officers involved, but investigations are underway," she said.
Meanwhile, regarding the people being sought, she added that it is suspected that some of them may still be in the country.
"There are also 6 wanted persons who are believed to be inside the country, except in cases where they may have fled with false identities," the journalist concluded.
