The Korça Prosecutor's Office has solved the case of Antonio Karafili, who in 2018 was reported to have committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree, after 7 years.
The Korça Court has imposed the security measure of "prison arrest" in absentia for Karafili's former partner, Kejsi Spahillari, suspected of the young man's murder.
According to the Prosecution, biological evidence shows that Rexhep Vathi and Kejsi Spahillari strangled Antonio Karafili with a sheet and then hung him from a tree, faking his suicide. The motive for the crime is suspected to have been a parallel relationship that Kejsi Spahillari had with the victim and Rexhep Vathi. After the incident, Spahillari emigrated to Canada, while in August 2024, Rexhep Vathi committed suicide.
Regarding this serious incident, in a statement to Euronews Albania, Kejsi Spahillari's mother denies her daughter's involvement in the crime. Through tears, she states that the entire case is fabricated and that the girl is being accused without concrete evidence.
Regarding the biological traces on the sheet, she claims that her daughter was at the scene after the suicide and had helped lower the body from the tree, along with other people.
"Nothing is true. Everything is fabricated, it's made up. I don't know the person in question at all, I'm hearing about it for the first time. I'm shocked. How is it possible that in so many years nothing was found, and now this story is being invented without any concrete facts? I don't understand how anyone is taken for granted. My daughter told me that she has nothing to do with this incident," her mother declares.
