The 39-year-old, whose name has not yet been revealed, has been wanted since 2019 in the Italian state and involved in an important international drug trafficking network, Italian media report.
The operation, carried out thanks to international cooperation and coordinated by the General Prosecutor's Office at the Venice Court of Appeal, led to the arrest of the suspect, who had been sentenced to 8 years and 7 months in prison for participating in a criminal organization for the purpose of trafficking narcotics and selling drugs.
The drug trafficker, now definitively convicted in Italy, had been the head of a criminal network based in the Veneto region.
The organization was involved in importing cocaine and marijuana from the Netherlands and Albania, distributing them to sales points in Venice and other cities in the province, such as Mestre, Scorzè, Noventa di Piave and Jesolo.
The investigation, coordinated by the Venice Prosecutor's Office and the Italian police forces, made it possible to reconstruct the leadership role of the fugitive, who was in charge of managing international drug supply channels.
The investigations were carried out by the Venice Mobile Team in collaboration with the Central Operative Service (SCO), thanks to the use of advanced technologies for electronic interception and surveillance.
Investigative activities enabled the tracking of the movements of the fugitive's family members, who were in Italy, revealing that during the Christmas period they had gone to meet him in Dubai, taking advantage of a wide network of helpers who facilitated his movements between Albania and the United Arab Emirates.
The operation was carried out in collaboration with the Interpol Division of the Service for International Police Cooperation (SCIP), which ensured a continuous exchange of information with foreign authorities. This made it possible to map the places frequented by the fugitive and locate him in Dubai, where he was arrested.

A month ago, the turning point came: the woman left for the Christmas holidays, stopping in Albania to avoid any unwanted attention, but this time she was unsuccessful and the police followed her to the Arab capital.
And, at that point, the work of the Flying Squad changed: it was necessary to activate international channels, through the Attorney General's Office, and a dedicated national task force formed for this case, which requested the cooperation of Dubai's law enforcement agencies; until that triumphant call.
Almost seven full years on the run in one of the most expensive resorts on the planet where, moreover, he could also pay for the rest of his family's visits testified to the large amounts of money the man had previously managed to accumulate, and thus the scale of his illegal trafficking of marijuana and, above all, cocaine.
