"From ship captain to law and construction", Petrit Qoli recounts: Celebration, disaster for our family

Defendant Petrit Qoli was questioned by SPAK as part of the "Golden Bullet" process, while he is accused of being involved in the murder of Fatmira Deda, while he provided details about his professional activity over the years, sources of income and family ties.

Journalist Klodiana Lala has obtained Qoli's testimony. He stated that from 2002 to 2013 he worked as a fishing boat captain, owning the ships "Dibra" and "Sazani". He added that he also completed the Faculty of Law at the "Kristal" University, while in parallel he was engaged in construction, building 8-9 buildings.

"I'm ashamed to say it, but I also have a law degree. In the meantime, I've also been involved in construction and have built several buildings," said Qoli. Asked by prosecutor Behar Dibra about starting his construction business, Qoli said that the idea came from his cousin, Mustafa Laço, a builder for years. He explained that he had built the first building near the archaeological pit area, behind the Palace of Culture, stating that he had about 300 thousand marks available, obtained from fishing activities.

As for his brother, Festim Qoli, the defendant said that he had owned several businesses, such as a bar-cafe and a gym, which he had built himself. According to him, Festim was also involved in the trade of duplicate cars and had connections with Italian citizens. “It is a disaster for our family ,” said Qoli, adding that they had never worked together.

He also spoke about his cousin Agron Qoli, whom he described as a "model boy" and a builder, but stressed that they had no business collaborations. During his testimony, Qoli admitted that he often traveled abroad due to his fishing boat activity, while regarding Festim Qoli he stated that he had family ties with a wealthy Bulgarian citizen, who was involved in the inerts trade and also held a British passport. In the end, Qoli emphasized that all his properties are mortgaged and that he personally followed the construction. "There was no concrete poured without me being there. I am self-taught," he concluded.

The testimony

Qoli:  From 2002 to 2013 I had fishing boats, I worked as a ship captain. The ship 'Dibra' and 'Sazani'. I'm ashamed to say it, but I also have a law degree, at Kristali. In the meantime, I have also built 9 buildings, I have also been involved in construction.

Behar Dibra:  Where did you get the idea for construction?

Qoli:  I have a cousin Mustafa Laço. He is a builder, he must be 80 years old. I told him I have 300 thousand marks. I did the first construction at the archaeological pit, behind the Palace of Culture.

Prosecutor Dibra:  Where did you find this money?

Qoli:  From fishing, I always had a boat. I have a brother who I lost, Festim Qoli. And a sister, Rezana Qoli.

Prosecutor Dibra:  While you were fishing, what did your brother do?

Qoli:  He had 5 businesses, a coffee bar, a gym. I had built them. Festimi was a master of stolen cars. He always dealt in car sales, duplicates. He had many Italian friends. Then work became difficult. I don't know where he met the Italians. I had bought a plot of land in Rruzhbull.

Prosecutor:  Who is Agron?

Qoli:  Agron Qoli is my uncle's son. He is a model boy, after me, but I don't have a friend. He deals with construction. We haven't worked together.
I have built 8-9 buildings. Even the mosque in Rruzhbull. We haven't worked with Festim, I have a brother, but it's a disaster for our family.

Prosecutor:  Did Festimi have any income?

Qoli:  I'm not Festimi's economist, but there was a wedding venue, it was normal that there was money.

Prosecutor:  Have you gone out of the country?

Qoli:  Yes, of course, I had a ship. I know that Festimi has a very rich Bulgarian daughter. I know that she also has an English passport. She is very rich, she sells construction inerts. She was not beautiful… but.. I don't know what Festimi sees in her. Festimi and I used to see each other for iftars and birthdays. He used to hang out with Laerti from Palma Nova. As soon as I started hanging out with him, he got cold. We always went like Tom and Jerry.

Prosecutor:  Did you have any ownership claims?

Qoli:  I mortgaged all the apartments. No concrete was poured without me being there. I am self-taught.
