Convicted as a cocaine distributor, the 25-year-old Albanian does not even

Albanian Erion Kakuli faces deportation after being jailed for distributing cocaine. The 25-year-old was suspected of distributing drugs in the Lidl car park, Burslem.

During a police operation, police seized cocaine worth thousands of pounds and more than £5,000 in cash.

Kakuli is serving a 40-month sentence handed down by Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court. The sentence makes it mandatory for him to cross into Albania.

Prosecutor Chandan Kaur Kang said police received information at 12.55pm on June 12 that a man driving a red Volvo was suspected of selling drugs in the Lidl car park. An officer attended the scene in an unmarked car and saw the defendant drive away in his vehicle. At 1.55pm the car was seen parked in Broad Street, Hanley.

The officer approached the defendant, who appeared to be coming out of an alley on Broad Street. He was stopped for a search and a pair of house keys were discovered on him. The officers asked him to accompany them to the address he had just left.

Police found two white envelopes, each containing a quantity of white powder in separate bags. There was also a ziplock bag containing cash, which was found in a drawer. In another drawer was another quantity of cash and a bag containing white powder. The total cash seized was £5,615.

Police seized 30 transparent packets weighing 24.3 grams with a value of between £2,280 and £2,660; 37 transparent packets weighing 15.6 grams with a value of £1,850 and a small transparent packet weighing 0.4 grams with a value of £50. In total, the cocaine was worth £4,650, if sold on the street.

Kakuli, of Broad Street, Hanley, pleaded guilty to possession of a class A drug with intent to supply and possession of criminal property.

The court heard that Kakuli was jailed for five months last year for producing cannabis.

The defendant's lawyer said Kakuli had a debt in Albania, which was a motivating factor behind the criminal acts. He came to the UK in 2021 and worked in construction. But he was under pressure because the people he owes money to in Albania know his family's address. The lawyer said the defendant understands that he could be deported and he is looking forward to being reunited with his family in Albania.
