An Albanian man has been arrested after he was caught running a cannabis farm in Nottingham worth over £170,000.

Albanian Renato Kutrici had not long been released from prison for the same criminal offense.

The 39-year-old's lawyer, Laura Pitman, said at the hearing that her client was involved in the illegal enterprise through an Albanian gang, to which his family owed money.

Among other things in the defense, the lawyer said her client was just desperate to get home to his wife and three children.

Detective Inspector Dan Scothern said police executed a search warrant at an address on Mardling Avenue at around 8.30am on April 11. He said officers knocked on the door and when they got no answer they forced their way inside.

"When they entered, the defendant was standing in the corridor with his arms raised. He was wearing gardening gloves and was covered in green leaves. There were no other people in the building. Inside were 205 plants in various stages of growth and each individual area had its own system of lights, food and a watering system. The drug expert estimates the value of the cannabis, if it were to be sold, it would be between £57,400 and £172,220," said the prosecutor.

Kutrici, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to producing cannabis. His previous conviction for the same offense saw him jailed for six months when he appeared at Warwick Crown Court in August last year.
