GJKKO has sentenced Talo Çela to 18 years in prison for the robbery of millions of euros at Rinas International Airport, an event that occurred on April 9, 2019.
We remind you that Talo Çela is currently wanted by the Albanian authorities and the trial was held in absentia and separated from the rest of the group.
For the event of the spectacular robbery of 4.6 million euros in April 2019, the Special Court sentenced the 7 defendants of the criminal group to 122 years in prison in October 2023.
Talo Çela's role in the robbery
Talo Çela was accused of helping to modify the van used with the inscription "Tax Investigation", in order to easily enter the Rinas track, where the robbery took place.
The brothers Viktor and Besimir Haxhia also participated in this event, where one of them, specifically Viktor, allegedly took part in the modification of the van.
The robbery
It was April 9, 2019, where on the runway of the "Mother Teresa" airport, in Rinas, Tirana, masked persons, under the threat of firearms, stole a significant amount of monetary values which were being loaded onto the plane and then during the exchange of fire with the Police, it was said that the "head" of the group, Admir Murataj, was killed.
Brothers Klement and Eldi Çala were arrested on March 19, just 1 year after the spectacular robbery of Rinas airport. For the capture of Klement Çala, the Police offered a 10,000 euro reward for anyone who provided information about him. Their property, apartments and land were confiscated.
For the robbery, the Prosecutor's Office was able to secure the testimony of one of the arrested, who was actually not favored in the measure of the punishment that was given to him, leaving him in the same measure as the rest of the group.
Alkond Bengasi agreed to confess to the robbery and the people involved, while the rest of the group never admitted to having participated in the robbery. In fact, according to the prosecution, a bunch of murders with several victims are connected with that money and it is even considered as the cause that led to strong enmity between Talo Çela and Nuredin Duman.
