"We found them lying on the ground, they were still alive"; neighbor recounts the first moments of the Kola family tragedy

New and shocking details have come to light from the serious tragedy in Italy, where four members of the Albanian Kola family lost their lives as a result of gas poisoning in their apartment.

Ernest Çela, a neighbor and fellow countryman of the family, recounted to Italian media the dramatic moments when he entered the apartment together with the carabinieri and the brother of the head of the family.

According to him, the incident occurred around 9:30 PM, when a carabinieri patrol arrived at the scene along with the uncle of one of the victims.

"In the evening around 9:30 PM, the carabinieri patrol arrived along with the uncle of the boy who had passed away. We immediately entered the apartment and went up to the second floor, where I saw the four bodies lying unconscious on the ground. At that moment I immediately went to check if they still had a pulse and up until that moment they still had a heartbeat," says Ernest Çela.

He adds that the situation deteriorated within moments, as the victim's brother also lost consciousness, while he himself began to feel dizzy.

According to his testimony, everyone was forced to immediately leave the apartment after it was realized that there was carbon monoxide in the environment.

"Then, at some point, the boy's uncle - the one who is now hospitalized in Cisanello in serious condition - lost consciousness. Then I started to feel dizzy too. Then, together with my father and the two carabinieri, we realized that there was something in the air, a gas or something similar.

"So we all immediately went out of the apartment. After we went out, we realized that there was carbon monoxide in the environment. The firefighters arrived after a while, I can't say if there was a delay or not. There was also an ambulance at the scene. After we went outside, they gave us first aid," says the young man.

He also explains that the ambulance was not allowed to enter the apartment due to the danger. He also added that when they entered the apartment, the victims had a pulse.

"When they opened the window, white smoke came out. But by the time I was upstairs, they had a pulse," he concludes.

Italian authorities continue investigations to clarify the technical causes of the carbon monoxide leak, while the first evidence from the scene sheds light on the dramatic moments that preceded this family tragedy.
