Four members of an Albanian family lost their lives on Wednesday evening in Porcari, in the province of Lucca in Italy due to a carbon monoxide leak suspected to have come from a malfunctioning heating system in their home on Galgani Street.
Corriere della Sera reports that the victims are 48-year-old father Arti Kola, mother Jonida, 43, son named Hajdar, 22, and youngest daughter Jessica, just 15 years old.
A fifth person, the brother of the head of the family, managed to escape, but is in critical condition. Two carabinieri, who went to provide first aid, also suffered minor poisoning, but their lives are not in danger.
The tragedy occurred around Wednesday evening. The brother of the head of the family called the carabinieri after he had not been able to contact them. When they went to the three-story apartment and knocked without receiving an answer, they broke down the door and discovered the four lifeless bodies. The uncle lost consciousness due to carbon monoxide poisoning and was rushed to the Cisanello hospital.
The prosecution has ordered the seizure of the house. Together with the firefighters, the carabinieri will check whether the boiler was installed and maintained according to legal regulations. The house, bought by Arti Kola about three years ago and partially restored by himself and some friends, was the last residence of the tragedy.
