A serious tragedy has simultaneously shocked Italy and Albania, after four members of an Albanian family lost their lives in the Lucca area, as a result of a gas leak from the boiler of the apartment where they lived.
The victims are Arti Kola, Jonida Kola, Hajdar Kola and Jessica Kola, who were found without signs of life when the Italian carabinieri forcibly entered the apartment, following alerts and lack of contact with the family.
The event has also caused strong reactions from local authorities. The mayor of Porcari, Leonardo Fornaciari, publicly expressed the community's pain and shock over this grave loss.
"We are all shocked and saddened by this tragic event," wrote the mayor of Porcari, Leonardo Fornaciari, who recalled in his post the similar misfortune of the Malanca family, which also happened in February, but in 1992. Our community joins relatives and friends in a symbolic embrace for this grave loss that has struck our city. May they rest in peace, all together," wrote the mayor of Porcari, the city where the Albanian family lived.
In his reaction, Fornaciari also recalled a similar tragedy that had occurred in the same municipality 34 years earlier. On February 28, 1992, four members of the Italian Malanca family - Raffaello, his wife Piera, and daughters Ilaria and Greta - lost their lives as a result of carbon monoxide released by a defective boiler in their apartment.
This event at that time has left deep traces in the local community, so much so that there is a public park in the area named after the Malanca family, in memory of the victims.
Italian authorities are continuing investigations to accurately determine the technical causes of the gas leak in the Kola family's apartment, while the Albanian and local communities in Italy are in mourning for the loss of four lives in tragic circumstances.
