Planned to kill Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, Spain frees drug lord

European authorities are on alert after a known drug trafficker who planned to execute the heir to the Dutch throne and the country's prime minister, Mark Rutte, has been released from prison in Spain.

Madrid has released the dangerous head of the "Mocro Mafia" cartel, Karim Bouyakhrichan, who was arrested in Marbella, last January, during a mega-operation against money laundering.

According to the media, the Netherlands was awaiting extradition to try him in the country for drug trafficking, while Spain wanted to try him for money laundering, releasing him on bail.

In 2022, Karim Bouyakhrichan was planning to kidnap or kill the heir to the throne, the Dutch princess Amalia. She was then forced to leave the student residence and return to the royal palace after the police received credible evidence of the drug cartel's plan.

When Dutch authorities learned of his arrest, they filed an extradition request with Spain's National Court, demanding that Karim face justice in the Netherlands, where he is accused of drug trafficking.

In the request of the Dutch authorities, it was emphasized that the cartel boss was one of the most dangerous on the list of wanted criminals of Interpol.

He was wanted for his role in a decade-long drug war in Europe that left dozens dead in Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain and Morocco.
