Footage has been released from the sophisticated cocaine laboratory in Empoli, Fierne, which was recently raided by the Carabinieri in Italy, where 1 Albanian and 3 Colombians were arrested.
Authorities say the apartment belonged to an Albanian, who had turned it into a veritable narcotics processing refinery.
He had set up a secret room in the back, where modern processing equipment was located. The Colombians also appear to have been the expert chemists in the processing.
As evidence, a quantity of 34 kg of cocaine, worth around 1 million euros, was seized.
A 54-year-old Albanian and 3 Colombians were arrested, who are also suspected of being the organizers of the criminal activity.
Authorities said the cocaine factory was identified and dismantled by the Carabinieri of the Empoli Company in Fucecchio.
"On the 19th of this month, the Carabinieri of the Empoli Company Operational Unit, engaged in operations to combat drug trafficking, arrested four people, an Albanian born in 1972 and three Colombians born in 1967, 1968 and 2003 respectively, for the suspected crime of possession, production and refining of narcotics," the official Carabinieri announcement states.
In particular, officers noticed strange movements near the Albanian man's house and decided to investigate further by searching the premises.
The carabinieri discovered, in the rooms behind the house, a real cocaine refinery, containing several blocks of the drug, totaling 34 kilograms, as well as tanks, scales, presses, an oven, pumps, vacuum packaging machines, bags and cutting material – a real laboratory used to produce more drugs.
Insect detectors were also found, preventing damage to equipment and merchandise.
By order of the Public Prosecutor in charge of the Florence Public Prosecutor's Office, the four individuals were sent to the Florence-Sollicciano Prison for the subsequent validation session before the investigating judge. The four were remanded in custody.
