The incident occurred in the village of Mjeda, and doctors suspect that the children were intoxicated by a rat poison.
Initial reports suggest that the parents had sprayed a warehouse with this toxic substance while their children were with them. It is believed that they may have inhaled or come into contact with the poison, causing severe symptoms that led to the fatal tragedy.
According to the Shkodra Regional Hospital, it was initially suggested to the family that the children remain under observation, but the parents refused and took them home. The next day, when their condition worsened, the children were returned to the hospital, but it was too late for the 3-year-old, as he reportedly died about 10 minutes after arriving at the hospital.
Meanwhile, his sister continues treatment at the QSUT in serious condition. Forensic medical expertise is expected to confirm the exact cause of the poisoning.
Meanwhile, the Police, in an official announcement regarding the incident, announced that they are investigating the incident.
"On 21.02.2025, citizen SH sent his 2 children, a 7-year-old girl and a 3-year-old boy, suspected of having seasonal flu, for treatment to the Pediatrics Department at the Shkodra Regional Hospital. After treatment, citizen SH and the 2 children left for their apartment.
Due to the worsening health condition of the children in the apartment, on 22.02.2025, citizen SH sent the 2 children back for treatment to the Pediatrics Department at the Shkodra Regional Hospital.
