Albanian drug traffickers and distributors in Italy appear to be using new strategies to avoid being caught by the police in their narcotics trafficking activities.
The scheme was uncovered by Italian police during an operation over the weekend, which revealed that the drugs were being distributed through rented vehicles.
A 25-year-old man in Cortona was arrested distributing drugs in a car he had rented from a private company.
It was a random check by the patrol that led to the discovery of 13 more wrapped doses of cocaine, weighing a total of 7 grams, in the back of the seat.
But what has surprised the carabinieri and investigators has been the fact that traffickers are now using as a strategy the taking of cars from the companies that rent them out, to use them for criminal purposes and at least cover their tracks or confuse investigators.
And this was not the only case. Because a few hours later, a few kilometers away, officers, taking cue from the first case, carried out checks on another vehicle rented by a 20-year-old Albanian, Italian media reports.
In the end, a cigarette box with 5 wrappers of cocaine, a total of 3 grams, were discovered hidden under the front seat, on the driver's side of the vehicle. 400 euros in cash were also seized as evidence. The Albanian was arrested for further investigation purposes.
