A two-year investigation has led to the arrest of an Albanian man suspected of being the leader of a drug delivery gang, as well as 12 Italians. An Ecuadorian national has also been arrested.
The drug trade was camouflaged as a food delivery business, behind which was the Albanian's own name.
According to Italian media, the arrested Albanian is 28 years old, but his name has not yet been released. During the operation, 35 kilograms of drugs, equipment for the preparation and distribution of drugs, and 120 thousand euros in cash were seized.
The investigation into this group began after two arrests carried out in February and May 2023 by the Busto Arsizio carabinieri against 2 Italians, from whom 5 kilograms of hashish and marijuana were seized.
The subsequent investigation, coordinated by Busto prosecutor Ciro Vittorio Caramore, established that the two arrested were operating within the same criminal group.
By 2024, other arrests were made, including 3 Italians who had hidden 4 kilograms of hashish, some inside packages that looked like food packages, a trick that was not new.
