Gjergji Cukali, known as "the strong man of Myslym Shyr", had another identity, which was revealed to him immediately after his arrest in 2016. He used the identity Ergi Hoxha.
He was released by the Supreme Court for health reasons.
In 2018, he was arrested again for breaking the security measure.
The Tirana police announced that they have made it possible to arrest Gjergj Cukali, where he has been accused of a serious criminal offense, that of premeditated murder. Investigators claim to have strong evidence proving his involvement in the murder of former police officer Arben Bilali on January 30, 2019.
Gjergj Cukali is accused of having ordered the assassination of businessman Gjon Mema. On February 9, 2021, on "Silvio Berluskoni" street in Kamez, the BMW vehicle of the businessman Mena was planted with tritol, which after the explosion caused only material damage. Gjergj Cukali, 42 years old, known as the strongman of "Myslym Shyr", as well as two brothers, Enver Jamaku, 33 years old, and Ermond Jamaku, 24 years old, were arrested for the attempt on Mema in 2021.
Cukali is accused of ordering this failed assassination attempt for the physical elimination of Mena, while it is suspected that he paid the brothers Enver and Edmond Jakimi for the assassination.
Enver and Edmond Jakimi stated before the jury on February 26, 2021 that Cukali had promised them 30 thousand euros but had only given them 2 thousand.
