The "Oncology" hospital file, finalized with much fanfare by the Tirana prosecutor's office, has been transferred for further investigation to the SPAK Special Prosecutor's Office.
The decision to declare incompetence was taken a few days ago by the prosecutor Bledar Valikaj, who has decided to pass this case to SPAK prosecutors for a more in-depth investigation.
It is known that now the surgeon of the "Oncology" hospital, Edmond Gashi, the former deputy director of the "Mother Teresa" Hospital Center, Brikena Qirjazi, the hospital coordinator Emiljano Lela and the doctor of the Oncology hospital Alketa Ymeri Pere, are accused of "Abuse of duty".
In parallel with this investigation, Edmond Gashi and other officials of this file will be investigated for the property. Gashi alone has 13 real estates.
Together with the doctors at SPAK, the administrator of the "Megis" clinic, Halil Gashi, and the administrator of the pharmacy, Florian Marku, also graduated.
This case was initially investigated in the SPAK, but then it was the prosecutor Dorina Bejko, who declared her incompetence and sent for further investigations to the prosecutor's office in Tirana.
During the investigations carried out, the prosecutor's office of Tirana a few days ago concretized the investigation, establishing 6 security measures for the doctors, the former deputy director of the hospital center and the two pharmacists.
The Prosecutor's Office of Tirana said that during the investigation it was found that patients who were going to undergo radiotherapy or surgical interventions were asked to go to the private clinic "Megis", where the owner is the doctor Edmond Gashi himself.
The service should actually be provided free of charge at QSUT, but even though the cobalt equipment was in order, it was stated that it was not working. Even during the investigation, it turned out that the device was not placed in the correct isolation room, posing a risk to the patients.
The file shows the fact that the Supreme State Audit had conducted an audit in 2022 about the situation in this hospital, where it discovered a large number of violations by drawing up a series of recommendations, but that the case was not referred to the prosecutor's office.
SPAK will now investigate the scheme, through which doctors of the Oncology hospital sold hospital medicines to private entities.
Also, they sent patients for treatment to private hospitals, while earlier they had refused to provide them with services in the state, using excuses such as waiting and long queues, when in reality they did not turn out like that.
Regarding the event in question, there were strong reactions in the public opinion, as well as the political one. Reactions flooded the social networks regarding the interceptions that 'sunk' the employees of this hospital, who were shopping openly, even plans for luxury vacations in Thailand or the Maldives.
