The Greek police seized a very large load of drugs yesterday afternoon (January 23).
After the information provided, the police stopped a van on the Patra-Athens axis, specifically in the place called Kiato.
145 packages with 195 kg 60 grams of marijuana were found and seized inside the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle, 67-year-old Andonis Panagiotopoulos, was taken into custody. The investigation shows that the vehicle was loaded at the green Albanian-Greek border.
The vehicle was found to be stolen in Athens on September 13, 2023, while false number plates XZP 1586 were placed on it. The police seized the driver's mobile phone to discover his communications.
It is estimated that the profit from the traffic of this cargo was about 600 thousand euros. The 67-year-old arrested is simultaneously a wanted person, sentenced by the Court of Ioannina to 8 years in prison and a 10,000 euro fine for drug trafficking.
He has been sent to the Corinth Police Station while the investigations are conducted by the Prosecutor's Office of this city. It is learned that he would be paid 200 euros per kilogram and would deliver the narcotic to an Albanian citizen who has been identified and wanted.
