An Albanian has been arrested by police at the Karasovic border crossing between Croatia and Bosnia after attempting to smuggle a large amount of money.
During a routine check on his way out of Croatia, customs and police officers discovered 702,435 euros hidden in his vehicle.
According to Croatian Customs, this is one of the largest cash seizures ever made at the country's borders.
The check was carried out as part of increased surveillance measures by the Anti-Smuggling Service and Dubrovnik mobile units, in cooperation with the Dubrovnik-Neretva Police Administration.
Investigations revealed that the Albanian had not declared the amount to the Customs Administration or Border Police, neither in writing nor electronically. The money was hidden in various parts of the vehicle.
