Full family reaction

We, the family involved in the recent tragic event, are deeply shocked by what has happened.

First, we want to express our most sincere condolences to the judge's family. We do not want conflict, but only peace and justice.

Our family members have long been victims of a corrupt justice system, where unfair decisions and unjustified delays have brought endless suffering and turmoil.

We ask for nothing more than justice and transparency.

We are against the distortion of facts and the use of opinion as fact by the media. Opinion cannot replace the truth.

We demand justice for our properties, which have been unjustly denied to us.

We demand that Elvis' rights not be violated and that he not be treated as a criminal, but as a victim of a system that is destroying an entire people.

We also demand that John be released and receive the justice he deserves.

Our call is clear: we want peace, we want humane treatment, and we want a justice system that serves citizens, not works against them.

With respect, the family of Elvis Shkambi, Gjon Shkambi.

What happened on October 6th?

Albanian justice was shaken by the in-court execution of Appeals Judge Astrit Kalaja. He was shot three times with a pistol.

The serious incident occurred within the General Appeal immediately after Judge Kalaja announced the decision to return a file on property issues to the first instance.

The person who shot and killed Judge Astrit Kalaja is Elvis Shkambi, after his uncle, Gjon Shkambi, lost the trial.

But not only that. The perpetrator loaded the gun inside the courthouse and then shot two people, a father and son, who were the opposing parties in the legal process and who won the right from the appeal over ownership, Rakip and Ervis Kurtaj.

The perpetrator immediately left the courthouse and handed over the murder weapon to the security guard, while pleading guilty.

The cause of the conflict that led to the shocking crime was a property in the city of Shkodra. The clash began about 15 years ago, between Gjon Shkambi, who lost the trial, the author's uncle, and 31 families who live in the former Reserve School in Shkodra. Each party claims ownership of the building, so the issue has remained unresolved in the courts for years.

This served as a motive for Elvis Shkambi to take the life of the judge who had been part of the Albanian judiciary for 32 years, Astrit Kalaja. The latter has a long career and had recently successfully passed the vetting process, serving in the general jurisdiction appeal.
