The court of Lezha has sentenced 32-year-old Kristjan Cenaj to life imprisonment, who was found guilty of murdering and burying 16-year-old Mariglen Gjonaj in Mamurras.
The decision was given by the jury chaired by judge Aldi Kareco, while this measure of punishment was also requested by the prosecutor of the case Frančesk Ganaj, who managed to prove his involvement in the macabre crime.
The prosecution had also requested "the application of the security period" which means that "even after serving 35 years in prison, he should not be given the possibility of parole", but this was not accepted by the court.
The lawyer of the victim's family members, Eduart Mullaraj, expressed his satisfaction with the decision, and is asking for the investigation to be expanded, as according to him, other people are also involved in this crime.
We remember that Mariglen Gjonaj disappeared in 2015. When the 16-year-old left the apartment on the day of the incident, in Kurbin, he had jewelry and an extremely expensive Rolex watch in his hand, which were worth 10 million old lek.
32-year-old Cenaj robbed Gjonaj of his Rolex watch and a gold pendant and then shot him dead.
The remains of the 16-year-old were discovered in early 2022, while DNA analyzes confirmed that they belonged to Mariglen Gjonaj. Then in October 2022, the police made it possible to arrest the 32-year-old.
