The death of businessman Armandi Nelaj in Saranda has been revealed.
The police of Saranda announces that the businessman together with his friend would set explosives on a ship making the Saranda-Corfu route, for competitive reasons.
On the evening of June 24, both of them took the explosive material, boarded a small boat and headed towards the Finikas Lines ship. However, the explosive accidentally detonated the businessman, during the attempt to transport it and put it on the ship.
According to the police, his friend Eridon Muho was taken into custody.
"The investigative structures of the Saranda Police Station, under the direction of the Prosecutor's Office, as a result of the in-depth investigative actions carried out, made it possible to elucidate and document with legal evidence the event that occurred on 24.06.2024, in the port of Saranda, where as as a result of an explosion at sea, the citizen AN lost his life
As a result of the investigations, EM citizen, 35 years old, resident in Saranda, was detained.
It is suspected that this citizen, in cooperation with AN citizen, had planned to plant a quantity of explosives on one of the ships operating on the Sarandë-Corfuz route, for competitive reasons.
This quantity of explosives exploded accidentally, during the attempt to transport it and put it on the ship, and as a result the AN citizen lost his life
The procedural materials were passed to the Prosecutor's Office at the Court of First Instance of the General Jurisdiction of Sarandë, for further actions," the police announced.
Armandi Nelaj was a businessman for 13 years, owner of a heavy construction equipment company.
While everyone was watching the match between Spain and Albania, Saranda was shocked by a very powerful explosion in the port. Initially, it was said about the explosion of an oxygen cylinder used for diving and there was an injury, but in the course of the investigations, suspicions were raised that we could be dealing with an accidental event.
The victim was practicing diving and was found by two foreign nationals, who were traveling in a dinghy towards their boat. These two people immediately took him out of the water and transported him to the Port of Saranda, where he was then taken by the ambulance to the hospital. Despite efforts to save him, the businessman did not manage to survive.
