A large-scale fire that engulfed a building complex near the University Hospital in Tirana has caused serious material damage and several injuries, while the intervention to extinguish the flames lasted for about three hours.
7 people were transported to the hospital due to smoke inhalation, specifically 4 citizens and 3 firefighters. Rescue teams also managed to extract two women who had been trapped inside the building.
The firefighting operation was intense and prolonged. Numerous firefighting forces from Tirana, as well as emergency response forces, were deployed on the scene.
Due to the size of the fire, two helicopters were also used to assist, intervening from the air to help isolate and extinguish the flames.
Tirana Fire Chief Arben Cara announced that the fire has engulfed the entire building complex.
According to preliminary information, the fire is suspected to have started on the first floors of the building. The flames then climbed the building through the exterior facade, reaching the 12th floor.
