The Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Kosovo has honored the renowned actor of the National Theater of Albania, Laert Vasili, with the high ecclesiastical title "Knight of Saint Constantine the Dardanian", in appreciation of his valuable contribution to art and culture, as well as his continued support for the spiritual and national heritage of Albanians.
Alban Hoti: "Laertes is a knight of Christ"
During the ceremony held at the Church building in Pristina, the Church representative, Alban Hoti, said that this title is not simply symbolic, but a testament to Vasili's deep spiritual devotion:
"We officially proclaim the title of Knight of Saint Constantine the Dardanian. This is an honor for a silent missionary, a devoted servant of Christ and our people."
The ceremony took place in the context of the creation of the first Albanian Orthodox Metropolis of Kosovo, inaugurated on April 20, Easter Day. The Metropolis is led by Archbishop Nikolla Xhufka, who during the ceremony prayed for peace, strength and faith for Kosovo and its institutions:
"The Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Kosovo stands close to every citizen, close to the state and above all close to the homeland."
Excited, Laert Vasili thanked the Church for the honor and emphasized the importance of preserving the Albanian Orthodox heritage, which for him carries a family and historical dimension:
"Albanian Orthodoxy is a legacy from my ancestors. I have followed this journey for two years, side by side with His Beatitude, Nikolla, who with courage and dedication followed in the footsteps of Fan Noli, to hold mass in the Albanian language."
Basil also mentioned his personal connection with Hierotheos Andon Yahu, his grandmother's uncle, who had served as patriarchal exarch of Constantinople and later as a monk on the holy mountain.
The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Orthodox community and believers, while the act of honor was considered an important step for the affirmation of the Albanian Orthodox identity in Kosovo and for the role of art in the service of spiritual values.
