The National Historical Museum will be closed for 4 years. The most important cultural institution and one of the main destinations for a tourist visiting Tirana will close its doors from March 15 to March 15, 2028.
The Museum's official Facebook account states that the reason for the closure is reconstruction, but without providing any other clarifications.
Activist Andi Tepelena said in the Review show on Euronews Albania that beyond the issue of restoration, the concern is how the issue of history will be conceived in the national museum. According to him, the Academy of Sciences that is expected to rewrite history is still not decommunized.
" My main concern is how the issue of history will be conceived, we have a historical vacuum after Skanderbeg, we don't know what happened after Skanderbeg's death until the time of Ali Pasha, it's 300 years of vacuum. We are still a country that does not have the original sheet of the declaration of independence. How will the period of communism be treated? The Academy of Sciences still smells like communism and deals with the rewriting of history. It is not only about the restoration of the building, but what will happen to the history, the entire history of Albania will be concentrated in the national museum, while the regional museums are on the black side ", he said.
