On the 21st anniversary of the creation of the Socialist Movement for Integration, Monika Kryemadhi has shared a commemorative video montage, where the spotlight is on Ilir Meta, the founder of the party. In her congratulations on social media, Kryemadhi highlights the challenges and battles won over the years, calling this initiative “brave, free and sincere”, with hundreds of young people who believed in “a new and true reality”.
"Even where we fell, we rose with dignity," writes Kryemadhi, while greeting with the words "Happy birthday LSI-sta", a term now out of political use since the party's name change in 2022.
But beyond the symbolic images and festive words, the reality of this political force is different. The SMI no longer exists as a formal entity; at the 2022 Convention, it took the name "Freedom Party", while all forums were merged into a new structure. At its head stood again Ilir Meta, who is currently in detention on corruption charges, after his arrest in October last year.
The most notable change, besides the name and logo, is the separation of two key figures who led the party for nearly two decades. Ilir Meta and Monika Kryemadhi filed for divorce this year, ending not only a personal but also a political partnership.
