The former deputy of the Democratic Party, Igli Cara, spoke about the affair of the port of Durrës and commented on the government's behavior in relation to what he calls a "big scandal".
Cara considers the Port of Durrës as the biggest theft that happened not only in Albania but also in Europe.
"First of all, I want to thank you very much for keeping this topic always alive because, as you said, it is the biggest theft that has happened not only in Albania, in the Balkans, in Europe, since the creation of our nation. It is at least 15 times more than the incinerator. And I will give them in numbers. And I have challenged any leftist or specialist in the field with the numbers that are visible as Rama does not like to say black on white, or with voice and figure.
Unfortunately, what the opposition has said, what we have said since the beginning of the time in December 2020. It is about decision 145 of that time where the opposition falsely approved without understanding anything precisely the ratification of agreements with the United Emirates...," said Cara during the interview for Syri tv.
Albanian taxpayers are expected to spend a minimum of 400 million euros from their taxes on the construction of a new port for the country after the government forgave the existing port of Durrës with a negotiated concession contract without competition for the construction of a building complex.
Prime Minister Edi Rama's government granted the concession to the port of Durrës after private negotiations, in which, on at least one occasion, they were found dining in a luxury restaurant in Dubai, invited by the company that won the concession.
