The third session in the Special Court for the assessment of the security measure for former Prime Minister Sali Berisha has been postponed to 3:00 p.m.
The reason for this is the lawyers who want to get to know the case.
"On 26.10.2023, at 10:30 a.m., in the Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime, a court session was opened for the continuation of the review of the request submitted by the Special Prosecutor's Office, with the purpose of questioning the citizen under investigation Sali Berisha.
- The court, after verifying the presence of the parties, found that the investigated Sali Berisha had not appeared in person and that the 2 defenders summoned for appointment mainly by the court, av. Jaldiz Kastrati and av. Rabije Cenalia, had appeared. From the side of the court , the defenders were given time to familiarize themselves with the acts of the criminal proceedings of the preliminary investigation phase, forwarded by the Special Prosecutor's Office, and for this reason the judicial review was interrupted, to resume today, at 3:00 p.m., the court announced. .
The first two sessions have failed for two days in a row, while today former Prime Minister Berisha will be defended by the two state lawyers Jalldiz Kastrati and Rabie Cenalia, who have arrived at the session.
On the other hand, Sali Berisha's defense filed the request for the dismissal of judge Irena Gjoka. This request of Berisha will be assessed today by judge Flora Hajredinaj, who will decide whether judge Gjoka will be excluded from the investigation.
A day ago, Sali Berisha's lawyers left the courtroom after a few hours of session, in protest of the rejection of their request by judge Irena Gjoka.
They requested the interpretation of Berisha's measure by the Constitutional Court, a request which was rejected.
The Special Court announced that it had chosen the lawyer Artan Simoni as defense counsel mainly so that the hearing could continue.
After about 1 hour of session, the black squads at the request of the Prosecutor's Office decided to postpone the session with eight defense lawyers, mainly from the list of lawyers, for today.
The cause is suspected to be an attitude of defense lawyer Artan Simoni on social networks against Sali Berisha.
Meanwhile, today the court appointed two lawyers, Jalldiz Kastrati and Rabije Cenalia, as defenders for the former prime minister.
