Democratic Party MP Enno Bozdo has accused the government of a corruption scheme in public infrastructure, which according to him is leading to poor-quality construction and the theft of millions of euros from citizens' taxes.
Bozdo said that the recent collapses on newly inaugurated road axes are just "symptoms" of a disease that has plagued public procurement for a decade.
According to him, the fundamental problem lies in the way tenders are awarded in Albania.
"Unfortunately, every competition, especially profitable ones in infrastructure, roads, bridges and buildings, has predetermined winners," the MP told "Syri TV".
Bozdo explained that this scheme operates on two main pillars: inflated prices up to three times higher than the real cost and extremely low quality work.
As evidence of this, he listed a series of problematic projects, starting with the collapse on the Qukë-Qafë Plloçë axis, the problems in the Skërfica and Kardhiq tunnels, the Tirana Ring Road and Arbri Street, which he described as a bottomless pit for the state budget.
