Alesia Balliu, who was involved in a heated debate with DP officials before the May 11 elections, after she was not included in the Elbasan candidate lists, even though she was one of the most voted in this district, has not hesitated to announce her candidacy for DP leader.
On journalist Roland Qafoku's 'Dekalog' show, Balliu said that Sali Berisha should retire, as he is a thing of the past, while adding that the DP needs young people with vision who will take this party forward.
"Mr. Berisha is the past, he must accept this fact. He must retire. The Democratic Party needs young people with vision to take it forward," said Balliu.
Asked if she is giving news about her candidacy, she said, "Without a doubt, yes. Alesia Balliu is a candidate in the race for president of the Democratic Party. I have the right vision. I am not afraid of challenges."
He then accused the names selected by Berisha on May 11th and who received the mandate of MP as individuals who do not have the support of the people, despite the fact that they may have a mandate.
"These structures, mainly of the DPA and the parliamentary group established by Sali Berisha, are no longer loved by the people. Their political time has expired. They may have a mandate, but they serve no purpose," Balliu said.
She directly accused Sali Berisha of the destruction and degradation of the Democratic Party, saying that he had "sold out" the party and that the elections were a rigged race, where the only winners were Berisha and Rama.
"Berisha had an interest in coming second. Rama won, Berisha won, and Albania lost. He has emerged victorious from this story. The democrats have lost, the people who have the right to have an opposition, to have an option to choose, have lost. Both of these have won," declared Balliu.
Balliu harshly criticized the composition of the Democratic Party's candidate list, calling it "a losing and undeserving list." According to her, the list does not represent the values of the Democrats, but rather individuals without contributions, included through non-transparent bargaining and moves.
"I would accept the closed list if there were valuable individuals there. But there are names there that have come out like from 'Life is Fun'. It is a list of losers," she said, recalling the meeting with Berisha 20 minutes before the Presidency meeting, where she had warned that the list would not bring victory.
"I told him: 'You will lose these elections'. He told me: 'Don't worry'. But I knew it was a losing list. This list does not receive any mandates from the open list. It is unrepresented," Balliu said.
