The press office of the American Embassy has dismissed the possibility of mediation by the diplomatic headquarters in overcoming the crisis in the special parliamentary commission for Electoral Reform.
In response to the media, Embassy officials have stated that they will continue to meet regularly with the chairmen, co-chairmen and members of various parliamentary commissions, including the Special Commission for Electoral Reform, underlining that the meetings are not part of any mediation.
"As part of our normal diplomatic engagement with members of parliament, the US Embassy meets regularly with chairs, co-chairs and members of various parliamentary committees, including the Electoral Reform Commission. Meetings are not part of any mediation. Our interest remains in effective and representative governance to implement ODIHR's recommendations and we welcome the ideas of all responsible parties for this purpose", underlines the press office of the American Embassy.
The EU delegation in Tirana has maintained the same position, rejecting the statements made by the head of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha.
According to Lulzim Basha, internationals are involved in mediating between the parties to convince the SP to reach an agreement on the Electoral Reform.
"In response to the reports circulating in the media, we would like to clarify that while the EU is not involved in any mediation, our position remains the same: we continue to emphasize the need to follow the recommendations of the OSCE/ODIHR.
As we have said before, including in the 2023 Report for Albania, the electoral reform requires constructive and comprehensive political dialogue of all parties', says the reaction of the EU delegation.
